Fluke 87-5 Digital Multimeter
The Fluke 87-5 Digital Multimeter has rocket-fast switches and fuses that keep you from blowing out your DMM. Hook it up to a 500mV signal one second and a 640V source the next second, and it switches seamlessly from one measurement to another without any smoke or fire.
You can get a thermister for the unit to measure temperature. You can also look at Voltage, Resistance and Amperage. You can monitor for conductivity between your leads or monitor duty cycles.
If don't need an o-scope but still need vitally accurate and reliable electrical measurements, then you can't go wrong with the Fluke 87 V.
